Hi! I am Charu. I am an Ashtanga yoga instructor. Yoga is something that I not just love and am passionate about, but something in which I believe deeply. My journey with yoga started in 2007 when I enrolled for a neighbourhood yoga class. I thought yoga was about being ‘bendy’, flexible, or wearing certain type of clothes etc. I thought it may be boring and too abstract. It turned out, yoga was nothing like that !
After just a few classes, I experienced a change in my energy levels, a sense of greater balance physically and mentally. I felt my mind calming down. Stress did not affect me quite as much. I continued my practice with curiosity and devotion. Yoga was bringing changes in different aspects of my life. After few years of practice I went on to complete my PGDYS where I got to immerse in the deep science-backed aspects of yoga under guidance of esteemed faculty. Yoga is a 5000 year old technology that modern science is only catching up with and confirming today!
Yoga is inner engineering. It has to be experienced to be believed! Hard to put in words but a single hour of practice becomes an experience that one wants to repeat over and over again. I find great joy in my practice and am excited to share that with you.
By qualification and by profession I am also a professional Geographer. My work involves a lot of travel. Geographers focus on places and spaces that are external. We explore natural (mountains, rivers, seas, caves, volcanoes etc) and human phenomena. In Yoga, the exploration and journey, I realized was all internal; the various physical and mental phenomena within one’s own body. For me, as I pursue higher education in Yoga, the exploration continues. Each time you practice yoga, you discover something new about yourself !
Incidentally, I too have been a regular guest (last 10 years) at Prakruti just like all of you! Whenever I visit the resort, I never miss a chance to do some Surya Namaskars by the beach or some restorative postures in the lovely gardens!
Come practice Ashtanga yoga basics :
- Free those tight joints – feel the energy flow
- Un-knot those tight spots – feel the release
- Breathe…like really fill up those lungs!
- Balance – center the swinging pendulum of your life
- Experience calm - slow down the speed of thoughts even if for a few seconds
- Relax – feel the happiness…Hakuna Matata!
- Discover the child in you – join in for some yogic games to improve memory and concentration!
My sessions are not about standing on your head, or contorting your body in weird postures. It doesn’t matter whether you are a beginner or seasoned practioner. It doesn’t matter whether you are already flexible and strong or not. It is for regular people who want to experience a sense of well being and calm.
Become a yogic explorer…start your journey inward in the blessed laps of Prakruti.
Do drop me a line or come meet me if you have any questions.
See you on the mat !
