The Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary remains one of the most popular sanctuaries in Maharastra
with its diverse fauna attracting a large share of the tourism sector. Tucked in
the Sahayadari mountain range spread over 13,000 acres of land, the Phansad Sanctuary
is an absolute delight for wild life enthusiasts since the sanctuary and the surrounding
areas is home to over 200 species of avifauna including the Indian pied hornbill,
blue throated barbet, wag tails and a host of raptors like the crested serpent eagle
and white eyed buzzard. The sanctuary harbors many other wild animals such as leopard,
dhol ( Indian wild dog ), wolf, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, chital, sambhar, muntjac,
gaur, langur, wild boar, deer amongst others. If you are lucky, you will be able
to spot the agile leopard and the elusive jungle cat.
